Ruan Vorster wins Junior Cyclocross title on HUP evo!

Congratulations to Ruan Vorster of West Lothian Clarian winning the Scottish Junior title for 2022/2023 and taking a dominant win at today’s final round of the Scottish CX championship on his 56cm HUP evo running HUP CD35 wheels.

Very cold with brutal, heavy-going mud in places, Ruan lead from the whistle, with a neck-and-neck sprint into the final straight before pulling clear 10m before the line. Fantastic ride and an awesome job done. Great racing from everyone.

So you still think you need carbon-fibre to win?

During a previous race Ruan suffered a frame failure on his big brand carbon CX bike, which the brand was unwillingly to repair or replace. With many riders unhappy with racing a repaired carbon frame (even when repaired professionally) after a crash, the HUP evo provided the best solution - as a brand new frame, costs the same as a typical carbon repair.

With superlight triple-butted Aluminium, full carbon fork and progressive geo - the 56cm HUP evo’s overall weight (sub 8kg) matched his original carbon bike, even though his HUP bike uses basic SRAM Apex groupset and basic saddle/stem/chain. With simple upgrades to those components and our TD35 tubular wheelset, a further 600g can easily be removed from the bike, taking it down to approx 7.4kg, several hundred grams lighter than the highest-spec, big brand carbon race bike from Germany.

Finally, the price. Ruan’s bike is exactly half the price of that highest spec carbon race bike, without the worry of future crashes. Unlike the high street, it’s customisable for bikefit when ordering too. Watching Ruan ride away from the entire field of carbon bikes to take the Junior race win and championship title on the Aluminium HUP evo...HUP, HUP, HUP!
